Jenifer Walkowiak, PhD is a Pediatric Neuropsychologist at Tufts Children's Hospital at Tufts Medical Center and an Assistant Professor at Tufts University School of Medicine. She completed her doctoral work at University of Texas at Austin, where she was Dr. Semrud-Clikeman’s research coordinator for her social competency project. Dr. Semrud-Clikeman’s research involved assessing and creating targeted interventions for children with autism spectrum disorder and other significant social competency challenges. Dr. Walkowiak’s research within this project included profiling the neurodevelopmental and executive functioning deficits in autism spectrum disorder, investigating the barriers to social competency, the development and better utilization of social perception assessment techniques, barriers to the development of social perception, and the effectiveness of drama-based social skills interventions.
Dr. Walkowiak completed her APA-approved pre-doctoral internship at the University of Minnesota Medical School in Minneapolis within the departments of Psychiatry and Neuroscience. She subsequently completed her postdoctoral fellowship at Children’s National Medical Center and George Washington Medical Center in Washington DC, an American Board of Professional Psychological-Clinical Neuropsychology (ABPP-Cn) approved fellowship residency program. While on fellowship, Dr. Walkowiak completed a Leadership Education in Neurodevelopmental Disabilities (LEND) Program with a specialty in Autism Spectrum Disorder. As a LEND fellow, she co-authored a booklet for parents of children with autism spectrum disorder to assist them with understanding their child’s diagnosis and navigating appropriate interventions. After her training, Dr. Walkowiak took a position as a supervisor of practicum students, interns, and fellows at the Watson Institute, an APA-approved psychology internship site specializing in diagnosing, treating, and educating children with autism spectrum disorders.
Dr. Walkowiak’s current professional interests include profiling a child’s neuropsychological strengths and weaknesses to assist caregivers in better meeting their child’s educational and community needs and serving as Psychology/Neuropsychology Training Director in the CCSN where she is an active supervisor for pre-doctoral advanced practicum students. She is a member of the International Neuropsychology Society, Massachusetts Neuropsychology Society, and Massachusetts Psychological Association.
