Clinical Care + Services

Pediatric Emergency Services is equipped to handle diverse and numerous emergencies, including the most difficult of cases. We care for traumatically injured children in conjunction with the Kiwanis Pediatric Trauma Institute, which is certified by the American College of Surgeons as a Level I Regional Pediatric Trauma Center.

Children are transported by ground ambulance or by air via Boston MedFlight to the Medical Center’s Trauma Receiving Unit in the Emergency Department, where a multidisciplinary team is available to treat them.

Children with thoracic, abdominal, orthopedic and central nervous system involvement are admitted to the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit where a team of multidisciplinary pediatric specialists care for children in need of or seeking resuscitation, trauma diagnoses, operative and non-operative management of multiple injuries, control of intracranial hypertension and compartment syndromes of the extremities.

Wait at home, not in a Boston Pediatric ER waiting room

While we make every effort to see your child within 30 minutes of arrival to our dedicated Pediatric Emergency Room, we are proud to offer a new tool that allows you to check-in for an estimated treatment time so that you and your family can wait at home instead of in a Boston ER waiting room.

If your child has a non-life-threatening emergency, please use the tool below to select the time you would like to come in to our ER for treatment.
